Sovereign Construction having recently completed the new Community Centre and commenced demolition of the existing in order to improve access and increased parking to the new Tesco Store - Sovereign were appointed to extend and connect the new “heavy goods vehicle” access road to the loading bay situated to the rear of the store for all incoming and outgoing deliveries.
These works required formation of a heavy goods vehicle access road allowing vehicles to enter from the west side of the site utilising roads more suited to HGV access and removing the need for vehicles of this type to access the loading bay through the main customer car park and to the rear of residential properties, thus causing nuisance to local residents within same.
The above works connect from an existing Local Authority roadway extending to form a new roundabout together with a spur road proposed for a new housing estate and extending to connect to the existing loading bay entrance. Close liaison has been maintained throughout the project with the local authority highways department and the scheme has incorporated works to the existing surface water culvert and head walls in order to reduce levels and maintain flow of water within same for the duration of the project.
This required the extension of all roadway lighting and included traffic calming measures within the main customer car park. This followed hand over of the HGV access and removal of the temporary route within the main customer car park.
These works were completed and handed over for use prior to Christmas 2011 and all works passed the local authority safety audit with no issues.
Civil engineering works necessitated by the working in proximity to a live water course/culvert, the requirement to reduce levels to same and install head walls and maintain flow of same for the duration of the project.
